About Us

The Bad Weather Birds are a Hampton Roads-based original progressive-funk-rock-roots-and-everything-in-between band, made up of Brent Esber, Padric Toman, Joe Peterfeso, Anthony LoMonaco, Kate Anjal, and Alex Clark.  They were formed in 2014 by Brent, Padric, and Joe, with Anthony joining on drums in the summer of 2017.  In early 2018 Kate officially joined Bad Weather Birds, with Alex rounding things out at the start of 2019.

Since their formation the band has recorded and released two studio albums, Reliever (2018) and Bad Weather Birds (2016), as well as two improvisation-based releases.  Their original songs “Reliever”, “Mercy”, and “Straight No Chaser” have received repeated local airplay on 89.5 WHRV’s Out of the Box program hosted by Paul Shugrue, 96X, and YourMusicShow.  The band was invited to perform live on Out of the Box in April 2018, and were selected to play the Out of the Box Emerging Artist Series in the Spring of 2019. The band have also established a solid reputation as an engaging live band, earning themselves nominations for Veer Magazine’s “Best Psychedelic Band” (2017, 2019) and a nomination for “Best Blues/Roots Band” (2019).

Bad Weather Birds' original material fuses a strong melodic sense with exciting instrumental interplay, soaring vocal harmonies, and meaningful lyrics.  These originals, combined with a selection of genre-spanning cover songs, and a dose of improvisation, are the foundation of the Bad Weather Birds sound.  It is the band’s goal to provide their audiences with an engaging and entertaining musical journey.  Their live shows feature different setlists each night, often punctuated with original debuts and one-off covers to create a unique experience for every show they play.
